Your listing says
“runs good.”

Buyers search for the model number, the hours, and the engine. If those aren’t written down, your machine doesn’t come up. I write them down.

What that looks like

As listed

2012 skid steer, runs good, new tires, $18,500 obo

Rewritten

2012 Bobcat S650 Skid-Steer Loader — 2,140 hours

74 hp Kubota diesel, two-speed travel, 2,690 lb rated operating capacity. Enclosed cab with heat and air conditioning. New 12×16.5 tires fitted this year. Auxiliary hydraulics; 72 in. low-profile bucket included. Serviced at 2,100 hours, records available. $18,500, offers considered.

Constructed example, not a customer’s listing. Every fact in the rewrite comes from the original or from the seller — nothing about condition, hours or service history is ever invented.

Who this is for

Two trades with the same problem

Independent used-equipment and trailer dealers who write their own inventory listings, usually at the end of a long day, and know the copy is costing them views.

Small regional auction houses running catalogues where a good share of lots are described as “box lot, various” because there were four hundred of them and the sale was Thursday.

The offer

Dealers

Send three listings you have already published. I rewrite them using only the facts already in the listing, and send them back. If they are useful, the next twelve are $60. The three come first — the invoice only follows after they are delivered.

Auction houses

Send a catalogue with thin lots. I rewrite twenty of them at no charge, working from your own catalogue entries and any photographs you provide. After that it is $0.30–$0.40 per lot, depending on volume and how fast you need them.

A lot, the same way

As catalogued

Lot 118 — box lot, china, various

Rewritten

Lot 118 — Royal Doulton “Old Country Roses” part service, 22 pieces

Comprising six dinner plates, six side plates, six cups and saucers, and a milk jug. Printed factory marks to bases. Two saucers with rim chips, illustrated; the remainder in good order.

Constructed example. Damage is described, not omitted — a condition note a bidder can trust is worth more than a flattering one.
